I am a 65 year old Mom and Grandma who has traveled throughout the world as a missionary. My heart goes out to each of you and your parents. Know that you are in my prayers daily. I hope the leaders of Iran will read what is here and listen to the pleas of Mothers everywhere to allow innocent children to be returned home. Be strong and faithful to all you have been taught by your parents.

300 Day Message to Sarah Shane and Josh:

I wanted to capture the 3 whirlwind days I spent on the long road to Arizona and back, because you all understand the love of travel and exploration; the need to meet the world outside of your comfort zone to grow as human beings. And, you understand the privilege of being able to visit new communities-as well as the profound need for home and place.

You know how great it feels to be barreling down some road with new music blazing in your ears, to be asking a new friend the story of their life, to laugh in new ways, and to land in the center of a town and see how people there dress, speak, work, live, and play. Imagine, I am having this experience right here in the U.S.!

Landing ‘splat’ in the heart of Phoenix, I trekked on sneakered shoes through the sweating concrete city cradled in a dry valley, a blooming desert, under a pink sky. Artists and musicians make their home here between blank and quiet buildings. The community has come together, and invited us to visit. Some cowboys are trying to hustle in a new law of the land-we came to see this movie, and to play our part in it. I rode in a car with Pato, and three other Bay Area folks. We listened to high school punk bands, sang ” Hallelujah” by Leanord Cohen at the top of our lungs, and danced in our seats to the newest hip-pop jams. Of course, even on the road we ate well….bringing humus, carrots, and organic yogurt! Later we did succumb to pit stop potato chips and too much candy. I saw the stretching golden fields and wind farms of California. I saw the borderlands of Arizona, and posed smiling next to a saguaro cactus. I kept a candle lit inside of me for all of you. I know there is a place inside of us that is strong and free no matter what is happening on the outside. I imagine this place is like a xenote, a deep water cave that is too dark to see with eyes, but completely accessible in the minds eyes, the hearts eye, and by the spirit that holds us all together. Constant love to you. -Jen Miller
